About me

I’m Karen Tortel, owner of Tortel Health and Hit Club. As a fully Qualified Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach and ex competitive Muay Thai fighter, I have always had an interest in health and fitness but after losing my health in 2021 to a skin condition called Topical Steroid Withdrawal*, I learned the true value of having good health, what it really meant and just how important it was.

As I began to very slowly recover from TSW*, I cherished the freedom that having my health and simply ‘feeling well’ brought me.
Like many others, I spent a long time struggling with low self-esteem and body image, punishing my body in a cycle of dieting and binging and setting unrealistic goals and expectations in regards to health and fitness. I was trapped in an all or nothing cycle that left me perpetually disappointed in myself and my body.
Over the last 10+ years I have spent countless hours listening to podcasts, reading, studying and learning about how to optimise my health in a way that fits my own lifestyle and health goals. My focus has switched from how my body looks, to what my body can do and does for me everyday. I am passionate about helping others to find balance in their lives, to appreciate their bodies and to optimise their health for a happier, longer and more joyful life. Because I believe that improving your health should always bring a net positive and should never be about punishment.
My ambition with Tortel Health is to help you to improve your health to improve your life.

My approach
I understand the challenges and emotions that people face when it comes to making a positive change to their health and how difficult it can be. My approach is non judging, empathetic and personalised. I understand that my clients each have a unique journey. I work collaboratively and with kindness to identify their barriers to change and find practical solutions that will help them towards achieving better health.
Flexibility and sustainability are very important to me. I want to ensure that your results are lasting. This is not a fad diet or a 12 week programme. I aim to create a flexible approach to health that is gradual, achievable and will enhance your life - not take away from it. Improve your health, to improve your life.
